Getting ready for Easter

Once again I was feeling crafty, I guess maybe it's the speech therapist in me. I thought it would be fun to do an Easter craft so Cooper and I made bunny ears and we colored a bunny rabbit and glued cotton balls on it. Cooper picked out the colors for the ears, but didn't really care to much about putting it together so I did most of that for him. He did enjoy wearing it afterwards though!

He also enjoyed coloring the bunny and gluing on the cotton balls! Here he is concentrating on his art work.

Mattox Update 35 weeks

As of tomorrow, I'll be at 35 weeks with Mattox. I can't believe how fast this pregnancy has gone. I really can't believe we only have about a month left until he's here!
Last week, we had an ultrasound to determine his current weight and head size to help us decide if we could attempt a VBAC or go ahead and schedule a c-section. Here's what we found out:
  • At 34 weeks, he weighed 5 lbs 15 oz.

  • He measured at 35 weeks 4 days gestation (so a week and a half early!)

  • His head size was in the 84th percentile and overall growth was in the 71.6 percentile

  • His legs were in the 37th percentile (which we thought was funny. Like Cooper, he will have a big head, broad shoulders and short little legs!)

  • The ultrasound tech said that he was on track to be at least a 9 lb baby by 40 weeks

  • He's already head down and is no longer breech.
So...since Cooper was over 8 lbs and was two weeks early and we had to do a c-section because of his size, I'm assuming Mattox will be the same way. We haven't seen the Dr. yet, but I'm assuming he will think the same thing as I do and we will schedule a c-section instead of try a VBAC. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm not going to risk laboring just to end up in c-section anyway.
Here are some pictures of his ultrasound.
The best picture we could get of his face. He wasn't really cooperating. You can see his foot by his eye. Nonetheless, I think he looks like Cooper.

Making a fist!

His little baby foot! Just too cute!

Spring Break Trip Part 2 - Dallas

On the second day of our little vacation, we went to Fair Park in Dallas and saw the Nature and Science museum. It was really cool. I definitely recommend it for kids of all ages. There was plenty for Cooper to do as well as older kids.

The first thing we did was dig for dinosaur bones. If you ask Cooper what he did he'll say, "play in the dirt!" Which is exactly right. He LOVED taking off his shoes and socks and digging in the dirt. He could have done that for hours and been perfectly happy.

Then we looked at some of the science exhibits.

We REALLY enjoyed the music area and the water play!

But the BEST part was the kid's farm area. Cooper got to ride a tractor, milk a cow, and do all kinds of farm type activities. He LOVED it!

The best part for Mommy and Daddy was how the LONG nap we took afterwards at the hotel! Ahhhh!

MILESTONE! (this post is rated PG for poopy content)

Okay, I am WAY behind on posts, but I wanted to sneak this one in here. COOPER POOPED ON THE POTTY! We are so excited! We bought him a potty for Christmas and since then he's been interested, but will just sit there and not do anything. Today he did it!!

Not to sound like an award show, BUT I'd like to thank Jacquee for giving me insight into potty training that worked for her daughter. For anyone working on potty training or soon to be potty training, this is what worked for us...

  • Start with #2 instead of #1. Originally I was trying to get him to pee on the potty and it wasn't working at all. We tried the before bath time thing and running water in the tub or sink and it didn't matter. Then we started flushing his poopy diapers in the toilet and he like watching the poop go "bye bye". Much bigger motivator!

  • Use the big potty instead of a little potty. We got him a potty that converts from a little potty to a seat that fits on the big potty for later. He would sit on the little potty, but never understood what it was for, but he'd seen mommy use the big potty. When we put his seat on the big potty, he got it!

Ok, so he's not potty trained yet, but I can still be excited right? I know we've got a long ways to go, but he was proud of his first stinky in the potty and so am I!

Spring Break Trip part 1 (Ft. Worth)

We (ok, I) was itching to get out of town over Spring Break, so we decided to take a weekend trip to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. The plan was to escape the snow in Lubbock, but it was just as cold and windy in Ft. Worth. Our first day, we went to the Ft. Worth Stockyards.
The first thing we did was saw the longhorn cattle drive. It was freezing cold, but fun nontheless.
David and Cooper watching the cattle drive.
Then we went to the Cowboy Hall of Fame Museum. This was pretty cool. There were a few hands-on things for Cooper to do and lots and lots and LOTS of wagons. Guess what wagons have on them......WHEELS!!! We were in wheel heaven!

Talking to one of the toy horses at the Cowboy Museum

Cooper loved playing in the sawdust. He was suppose to be looking for arrowheads, but I think we ended up with more sawdust on us then in the box.

One of the Wagons...couldn't resist the photo op.
Later that night we went to the Stockyard rodeo. We thought Cooper would enjoy seeing the horses and bulls and watching everything. I guess it was a little too loud because he was pretty scared most of the time and only watched it when we asked him too. He did seem to like the horses, but didn't care much for the bull riding at all.
Cooper and Daddy at the rodeo. Looking a little scared.
BUT! Our favorite part of the rodeo was this tractor. It was in the middle of the area. I guess they used it to smooth out the dirt before the rodeo. Cooper thought it was awesome! Especially withthe spotlight shining on it.

DIRT

One of Cooper's favorite things to do is play "car game" or "DIRT" with Daddy. DIRT is a rally racing car computer game. Cooper already knows how to steer the car and accelerate. Like father, like son.

Hangin' with Uncle Taco

Uncle John and David at the Discovery Center playing with the gas maker machine. Real mature, right?

Cooper LOVED the rollercoaster track. He called it a racecar track.

Driving the firetruck...looks like he had a passenger.

Looking at the cars at Cadillac Ranch.

Uncle Taco's first Longhorn Bull

Uncle Taco and Cooper at Palo Duro Canyon

"I see a BIG rock!"

This past week, Uncle John came to visit. Uncle John, or Uncle Taco, is a close family friend we have known for a LONG time. He and David grew up together and I have known him since high school. Last time John came to visit, Cooper couldn't say, "Uncle John", so he called him "Uncle Taco" instead. Since then, he has been Uncle Taco.

We had a good time with Uncle Taco. On Friday, we took him to Amarillo to see Palo Duro Canyon, the Discovery Center and Cadillac ranch. We also had dinner with Sam and Keesha. Uncle Taco had never seen a canyon, a cactus, or a longhorn before, so it was a day of firsts for him.

Big Shoes to Fill

Cooper found his Daddy's tennis shoes and started walking around in them. He thought he was SOOOO cool walking in Daddy's shoes.
